Québec City, April 30, 2014 – In October 2014, heroes from a myriad of fantastical worlds will converge at the Québec City Convention Centre for the highly anticipated first edition of the Québec City Comiccon. It is the ideal place for fans of pop-culture showcasing artists and products from entertainment genres like: Sci-fi, Horror, Anime, Gaming in all its forms and, of course, bande dessinée and comic books.
Creators and celebrities are always enmeshed with Comiccon, and our initial line-up for the provincial capital brings in huge proportions. Lou Ferrigno launched himself into stardom when he earned the role of the title character in the hit television show The Incredible Hulk – and he has been a larger-than-life personality in Hollywood and beyond ever since. At age 21 he became the youngest winner of the Mr. Universe title in its history, winning it a second time at age 22, Ferrigno has become synonymous with health, strength and entertainment and has forged an ‘Incredible’ career that has involved numerous appearances on the late night talk shows, major news programs and a variety of films, including the English-language voice of The Hulk in the highly successful 2012 film The Avengers.
Stopping over from a galaxy far, far away, Québec City will welcome Jeremy Bulloch, who portrayed one of the most memorable villains from the Star Wars universe, Boba Fett. The incredible popularity of Bulloch’s turn as Boba Fett has proven true the old theatrical saying: "There is no such thing as a small role". Bulloch also had roles in three James Bond films, playing Q’s assistant Smithers. He has appeared in two Doctor Who stories as well as the British/PBS series Robin Hood as Edward of Wickham, from 1984 to 1986. He later appeared in 2005 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith as Captain Colton.
Costuming and Cosplay (costume and play) is also a big part of Québec City Comiccon. It involves the act of dressing up as a character from comics, anime, videogames, manga, movies, TV, or books. Ani-Mia is a well-known cosplayer that has been travelling the country appearing at conventions as anime characters like Neliel from Bleach, Kanu Unchou from Battle Vixens, and Saya from Highschool of the Dead; DC characters like Zatanna, Catwoman, and Supergirl; Marvel heroines like Rogue, Emma Frost and Dark Phoenix, and many more. She's had the pleasure of judging costume contests, appearing on panels, along with being in online and print magazines.
In terms of comic book creators, our first guest announcement is Shuster Award-winner Dale Eaglesham. He’s worked on many DC titles including Green Lantern and Justice Society of America, but most of his recent work has been with Marvel on titles like Steve Rogers: Super Soldier, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk and Alpha Flight. In 2013, he illustrated the origins of Tony Stark, coinciding with the theatre release of Iron Man 3.
The Québec City Comiccon website will be regularly updated with additional guests in the weeks and months leading up to the event, as well as information on panels, autograph sessions, celebrity photo ops and other events. Fans of all ages are invited to attend the convention dressed as their favourite characters from movies, video games, TV and comic books.
Last, but not at all least, collectors of comic books, toys, cards, movies, and other fantasy memorabilia will find themselves in paradise, surrounded by passionate retailers, who might just hold in their crates the precious missing pieces of a beloved collection.
The Québec City Comiccon will take place at the Québec City Convention Centre on October 25 and 26, 2014. Tickets are available now online, with single day tickets, weekend tickets and VIP packages. Visit comicconquebec.com for details and updates.
